Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge foodie. Hands down my favorite thing about the DMV is their food scene. So many cultural dishes, so many diverse meals… if I did nothing more than to try every restaurant out here, I’d be satisfied. Ok maybe I’m exaggerating but really I can’t brag about the food enough. The LA in me misses really good Mexican food but besides that, the DMV knows how to keep me full.
In today’s post I’m going to start off with a few of my favorites in the area. I must admit it was really hard for me to narrow this list down and some will even be talked about in other posts but if anyone was visiting the DMV I would definitely tell them to check out these four black-owned spots:

Coming in hot at #1 we have Milk & Honey. Now, I will admit I feel like for a place to be truly a favorite they should have good brunch and dinner, but Milk & Honey is only a brunch spot. And as a true breakfast girlie (I’m talkin favorite meal of the day), how could this place not be my favorite.
Being new out here I didn’t want to go to the same spots multiple times. I feel like there’s too many restaurants out here to just go to the same few all the time, so everytime I go out, I try to eat at some place new. I will say though… Milk & Honey is the only restaurant I have been to multiple times. I’ve taken both of my parents at separate times, I've gone with friends, I’ve gone on a date, and of course I’ve gone by myself and the food hits every single time. They have multiple locations all over the DMV but some are counter serving establishments with limited seating and some are full service restaurants. They are famous for their RumChata French Toast (adults only) but recently my favorite dish of theirs has become the biscoff-infused waffles and their cheesy grits were ridiculously good.
If you want a more homey feel maybe to go with the fam I would say go to the College Park location, but if you want more of an out-with-friends or even on-a-date vibe I would say the Wharf is a better location. This is just based on the one’s I have been to but trust me I will keep y’all updated on other locations I plan to go to.

They may get on me but I can’t tell you if LA has a lot of Caribbean spots on account that I haven’t had it out there so I can’t compare, however, out here they’re all over the place. Jerk at Nite is a hole in the wall restaurant in NE DC and the best I’ve had out here. When I say they have the best Mac & Cheese in the DMV-- . And I am Mac & Cheese obsessed so I know what I’m talking about here. I tell myself I’d try other dishes there but every time I go I just have to get the mac. But I do have a friend visiting in the next few weeks and he said he wanted some caribbean food so you already know where I’m taking him. I promise I’ll get another meal so hopefully he gets a side of mac so I can taste some of his.

Now Creole on 14th I’ve only been once BUT I had their oxtail and mac & cheese tacos and it was one of the best tasting things I’ve ever encountered. It probably isn’t fair to call this place my favorite because they took this item off the menu and I don’t know how the other food is but based on what I had before… I’m sure everything is just as up to par and I’ll definitely be going again real soon.
Miss Toyas is the only one on this list that has brunch and dinner but I have not gone for their brunch yet so I can only attest to their dinner. I’ve talked about this place in the ‘Mom & Me in the DMV’ post and don’t want to be redundant but the times I have been were more than pleasing. Again, I don’t like to repeat restaurants in the DMV because there's so many to try but this is one spot I will go multiple times (usually if I have family or friends visiting). Don’t kill the messenger but I heard the SE DC location isn’t the best. Although it’s only up the street from me I probably would not step foot in that one so I can only brag about the Silver Spring location. They also recently opened up a new loco in Laurel, MD so I might have to check that one out one of these days.
